Larisa McShane and Associates transforms
cramped bathroom into an elegant ergonomic
space for disabled client.
Villanova, PA (March 7, 2008) –
Larisa McShane and her team had a
considerable task redesigning a small,
inaccessible bathroom into a functional,
spacious area for a client suffering with
Rheumatoid Arthritis.
The original bathroom was extremely
confining, with limited storage that could
not be easily reached. The shower was also
restrictive, preventing the client from
being assisted in the shower. To create more
space, an existing closet was removed and
the space incorporated into a larger shower
area. Dual showerheads and a beautifully
crafted folding wooden bench made showering
easier for the client and allowed her
husband to help her. A frameless glass wall
and bi-directional glass door were installed
to make infinitely more practical and
efficient use of the space.
Custom counter-to-ceiling cabinetry was
added to compensate for the lost closet.
Everything from the cabinetry to the
vanity design, to the handles on the
cabinets was deliberate in both design and
functionality to make toiletries reachable
at hand, and with minimum maintenance in
mind. Custom lighting highlights the
stunning cherry cabinetry, shelves, and
the striking Avonite countertop.
