Five Ways To Invite Romance Into Your Bedroom

February 11, 2022 By Larisa McShane
Our bedroom is often the only place where we can indeed be ourselves. It is where we power down our defense mechanisms and allow the subconscious mind to take over while we dream. But, unfortunately, it is also often the most neglected part of our homes. We spend most of our energy, time, and money decorating the features of our homes that serve others. Well, it’s time for a change. Here are five ways to invite romance into your bedroom.

Here are five ideas that will help you shake things up in the bedroom, jump-start your mood, and hopefully your love life! Even though we may not always like it, we thrive on change. So open yourself up to something new, even if it is only a new set of sheets. You’ll be surprised at what new energies, thoughts, and ideas a little change can bring into your life!

  • De-Clutter, De-Stress

There are enough things in this world that cause us stress daily. None of them belong in your bedroom! Your bedroom is where you unwind, make love, and pamper yourself. It is where you heal and dream. Look around. Anything that doesn’t bring you joy needs to leave. If you are using part of the room to store old things, take them somewhere else: the attic, the garage, or better yet, get rid of them altogether. We need much less than we think we do. If you can help with it, don’t work in your bedroom. When you go to your bedroom in the evening, work is over. With all the technology we have, it’s too easy never to shut off. Make sure your bedroom is a sanctuary, not an extension of your office.

  • Lighting! Lighting! Lighting!

We don’t function on an on/off switch, and our moods vary in intensity. So should your lighting! Adding dimmer switches to your lights is a great way to create the mindset that gets you in the air. If you already have dimmer switches, install wall-washer lights; leave them on the lowest. They make the walls glow and emit a soft, warm ambient light across the room. You can also up-light a large plant to throw streaks and shadows across the ceiling and walls, adding a bit of drama. Hanging pendants over the nightstands will create a glowing halo effect surrounding the bed.

  • Out with the blinds, in with the draperies

Sure, blinds serve a purpose, but there’s nothing sensual about them. On the other hand, draperies can do the same job with much more style. Deep-colored draperies of lush fabric can completely separate from the external world. The folding curves of the material will give the room a feeling of sensual intimacy. On the other hand, flowy, sheer draperies can provide the space with an open, breezy feel, like the light touch of fingertips against the skin.

  • Change the sheets

Another fast way to add some spice is to invest in a set of sheets that will provide a contrast to your skin color. Deep shades like crimson, sapphire, or chocolate are a fantastic backdrop to lighter tones of bare skin. If your skin is a darker tone, try cream, gold, or azure. Silk or satin sheets will stimulate your skin, make it feel sensual and alive. There are some unbelievably soft bamboo sheets on the market for the more ecologically minded.

  • Lay down an area rug

Even if you have wall-to-wall carpeting, placing a textured or colorful rug under the bed that reaches about 24-30” wider than the perimeter of your bed is the perfect way to create an intimate bed area. You’ll know you’ve found the right rug when the colors and textures relate to your sheets, draperies, and other elements of the room, unifying everything into a cohesive whole.
